WHAT ARE YOU ?

Last Friday, while at HAWA COSMETICS for LADIES NIGHT OUT celebrating Pretty Pinks and Orgasmic Oranges I promoted Full Figured Fashion Week ™ passing flyers to passers by - walking up and down Fulton street ( Brooklyn, NY) . It was one of those days - yet I was doing my very best to make sweet lemonade out of sour lemons. I was handing out flyers to EVERYONE - and there was one woman who was coming up on my visual radar who was short, caucasian and who appeared to be a size 16/18.

As she approached me, I extended my hand to pass her a flyer - she raised her hand to accept and asked, " What is this ?" . " It's a flyer for Full Figured Fashion Week...It's like Mercedes Benz Fashion week except the event features designers who cater to women sizes 14+", I said. Her reply, " ARE YOU TRYING TO CALL ME FULL FIGURED!! " . Apparently she'd taken offense to me passing her a flyer as she proceeded - " I feel like you singled me out to give me this flyer ". Why would I be interested in going to Full Figured Fashion Week ? Are you implying that I'm FAT!" Of course I was taken aback by her response, I smiled, looked her dead in her eyes and replied, " Miss - I'm not calling you - fat, full figured, or any other name you can think of to call yourself. All I did was give you a flyer to Full Figured Fashion Week. It was not my intent to offend you or make you feel any worse than you already feel about yourself. I was simply making an effort to promote an event over 1000 people look  forward to attending and if you find harm in that - then I apologize for even extending this flyer to you." then slowly walked off.

Later on that day, I got to thinking. Whether or not there are more women out there who wear a size 14+ who do not consider themselves  full figured or plus size? Why are people so reluctant to accept these terms when clearly they fit the description. It's mind boggling to witness the warp views people have of themselves and how they connect and or disconnect themselves with labels.

Let's think about it. What do you consider full figured and what do you consider plus size ? I consider a size 10 to be full figured and I consider plus size to be a size 16 and beyond ( this is my personal opinion). Many, have contrasting views on this. Where do you stand ? All opinions are welcome.
